Evaluation task 2

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My product represents the social group that would be called 'mainstream' and I have designed my magazine to suit this social group. The style of my magazine is similar to Q magazine because Q magazine regularly includes a lot of mainstream music and artists. The red black and white with a small bit of blue colour scheme represents the genre I have chosen as these colours are also quite 'normal' to use for magazines and therefore mix in well. I chose my cover artist to look similar to those in mainstream music, she has the similar look to pixie lott when she was a new artist with the long blonde hair. I followed the image idea of Adele on the front of Q magazine, with a turned face and a close up shot. I feel this makes people focus in more on the facial expressions, for this reason the image is more suited to woman viewers and men tend to like a full body image. Her clothes are dark which is something I picked up on when viewing mainstream artists on the front cover of magazines, it also matches the colour scheme, which helps to blend in the outfit and make the face of my model stand out. I feel that mainstream music wouldn't be represented well by someone with messy black hair and very heavy eye makeup with dark lips as this would put most 'mainstream' listeners off buying the magazine, they expect someone looking nice with well done hair and perfect makeup.
