Front cover image ideas

If I chose a long shot for my front cover image, I have decided to use mainly dark coloured clothing on my model, such as black, dark grey or very dark blue. I will probably either use a dark dress or leggings with a nice dark top.

If I use a close up shot for my front cover I will focus on detail mainly for the eyes and lips, using a bright red lipstick, and having dark eyes, the dark eyes will really make the red lips stand out. I will also style the hair to look in a certain way so each little detail is focused on more than it would be if it was a long shot being used.
I would use a dark or light top so the shoulders which will just be visible will stand out against the white background or blend into it nicely to make the face stand out more.

The pose I get my model to use will depend on which pose suits them best and which pose they look the most comfortable in, but will also fit onto the cover of my magazine nicely.

Content page analysis 3

Contents Page Analysis 3

My Pitch

Double page spread mock up

This is a mock up of my double page spread, the left side of the page which is shaded pink will be the image of the artist, on the right side there will be 3 columns of text and the title will be large and black like it is here for the mock up. If the image is a large image with a lot of background colour on the right and the person situated on the left, the image will take up the whole of the double page spread and the text will be placed ontop of the image background aslong as the text can be easily seen and read.

Double page inspiration

All of these double page spreads have a large image on the left page, and all the writing on the right page. I like the top left double page spread because there is one main large image and a few smaller ones down the side so there's more than one image to look at on the one page. I also like the middle left double page spread because it's one large image over the two pages with the person situated to the left of the image and the writing written over the background to the right, it makes the double page spread all look like one big page and it all fits in well.

Contents page mock up

This is a mock up of my contents page, the image down the bottom will be related to one of the artists being mentioned in the reviews, and the big image to the right of the contents page will be an image of my artist which is also displayed on the front cover and has the double page spread.

Content page inspiration

I have looked at some contents pages to help with inspiration for my contents page as I wasn't sure what sort of style to use for my contents page. Most of these content pages have approximately 2 images, which would be of the two most important parts in the magazine. A picture of my solo artist will also be on the contents page somewhere, and also a picture suggesting an article or review of an artists new album will be placed as a smaller image lower down on my contents page, similar to the Q contents page layout.

Magazine font inspiration

The title for this magazine is in a big red font, similar to the idea I was thinking of for my magazine .It stands out really well against the mostly white magazine cover.

Although the title is half hidden behind the image, you can still figure out what the title says, only well known magazines would be able to put an image infront of the title, being confident that readers will still establish the magazine. The title is a nice easily readable font and the letters are quite spaced out from eachother, in a purple font which stands out from the black and white from the rest of the front cover.

Again this magazine has an image infront of the title which is only able to be used by well known magazines for the reason of readers being able to identify the magazine. This title is in a clear capital font with well spaced out words, and the colour of the font blends in quite well with the colour of the image and the colour of the background.
This magazine has one of the boldest brightest titles I have seen, the NME title is always very bold and placed in the top left corner, for this magazine because of the colour scheme it is a very bright pink which stands out against the colour of the clothing on the artist and the background. The font is large and bold in order to stand out more than anything else on the page.
This magazine is very different in style to most magazines, it's not a style I would choose for my magazine because it's quite complex as the image is roled around into all of the front cover, the title in this cover represents the fishing line and the model is sat on the fishing hook. The title is quite faint and wouldn't stand out on the shelf to readers but the unique magazine style would interest the readers into having a closer look.

Font ideas

These are some of the font ideas that I found off of dafont, I like the fonts which are easy to read so people will be able to read the title easily and won't be put off by a squiggly font which they can't read. I like the fonts which have breaks in the letters 'eroded' fonts because it adds an edge to the font and makes them look not as boring, but I also like the capital letter fonts because they are clear and easy to read and will really stand out at the top of a magazine.
The magazine title is likely to be in a red box with a white font or in a red font. I think all of these fonts would look good in either colour, although it would be harder to make the eroded fonts look as they're supposed to in a white font against a red background.

Inspired by Q magazine

I like Q magazines front covers because they are simplistic but they're still effective and bring in the readers, they use a variety of interesting images, and never overload the front cover with too much information. I would like my magazine to be of similar style to Q magazine, I'd like to have a unique title which will be the same on every magazine and be easily recognizable like the red square with the white big Q in the middle on Q magazines. They use a lot of red on their double page spreads aswell, and have lots of images to illustrate the text. I would like my double page spread to be of similar design to Q magazines double page spreads with various images and the red theme colour running throughout.

Genre magazine covers - mainstream music

Alot of mainstream music artists are displayed on magazine front covers with bright colours, a bright pink is used quite often for women artists on the front covers, and all of the magazine covers use quite a lot of black font and black outfits on the artists. They all have quite a simplistic layout, the covers aren't too crammed up with information but they have enough information and important bold information to bring in the readers and make the readers want to read the whole magazine. The Q magazines in particular use quite a simplistic layout, but because they're a big well known magazine, they don't need so much information on the front to bring in the readers, a newer less known magazine would have slightly more information on to advertise all the good parts inside the magazine, but not too much to make the front cover seem crammed as readers don't tend to like a 'messy' looking magazine cover.
